I’ve been experimenting with rust dyeing this week. These marks were made using a few rusty washers left in a jar of water and vinegar on my windowsill for a week. I didn’t have many rusty objects (and I was a bit impatient!) but I really wanted to give it a go. I even added some loose tea for texture, and the tannins reacted with the iron to create soft grey tones. The outlines came out beautifully crisp, and though the colour dried more subtly, I love the result. Next time I might try leaving
