Groucho Marx (born Julius Henry Marx, 1890–1977) was an American comedian, writer, and actor best known as the quick-witted, cigar-smoking member of the Marx Brothers comedy team. Famous for his sharp one-liners, bushy eyebrows, and signature greasepaint mustache, Groucho helped pioneer a brand of anarchic, fast-paced comedy that heavily influenced American humor. The Marx Brothers—Groucho, Harpo, Chico (and occasionally Zeppo and Gummo)—were wildly popular in vaudeville, Broadway, and later fil
