Upon reflection on my recent Ph.D. proposal defense, it becomes increasingly evident that even when an admission number is cited in brackets, the panel rigorously interrogates it. Occupying that proverbial hot seat is far from a leisurely endeavor, particularly during the Q & A session, contrary to the assumptions of some non-PhD colleagues.
