These endangered Puerto Rican parrots have been moved to a “hurricane room” ahead of Tropical Storm Ernesto. The Puerto Rican parrot is the only native parrot in the U.S. and has been the focus of recovery programs in recent years. The wild parrot population took a major hit in 2017, when back-to-back hurricanes Irma and Maria decimated Puerto Rico and the birds’ habitat.
