The third of three storms that raked across the capital region and California dropped nearly an inch of rain on parts of Sacramento overnight and more than an inch in the Sierra foothills, with fresh snow piling up in higher elevations. And another weather system is taking aim at Northern California later this week.

A strengthening storm will spread heavy rain and severe thunderstorms from Texas to Missouri, raising the risk for flash flooding, travel disruptions, and damaging winds from later Wednesday to Friday.
