The City of Long Beach will offer free gun storage safes to residents as part of an initiative to promote firearm safety and prevent gun-related injuries and deaths, officials announced Monday.

New Orleans officials and community leaders will hand out 75 biometric gun safes to residents on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The initiative comes weeks after a toddler was killed in an accidental shooting.

Attendees will receive free firearm safes at an event in Longmont on June 28, promoting proper firearm storage.

And a hospital in Philadelphia is giving away gun safes for free. It is far more common for groups to give out free cable locks, which are inexpensive but not as effective as gun safes, experts say.
