White House prepares for 'imminent' federal layoffs after Democrats force government shutdown
The federal government is preparing for worker layoffs within days as Senate Democrats continue to reject Republicans' spending measures.
Republicans are seeking a bill to temporarily extend federal spending at current levels without any add-ons. Democrats are pushing to extend expiring subsidies for Affordable Care Act health plans. Democrats have also said they want to reverse Medicaid cuts that President Donald Trump signed into law this summer.
Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar blamed Republicans if the government shuts down. "This is a shutdown they will own, and the American people are paying attention," he said.
