New York City police say someone made off with a knife from a crime scene in the chaotic aftermath of a police shooting.

New York Police Department Commissioner Edward Caban is stepping down Thursday, multiple sources with knowledge of the decision tell CNN, marking the first high-profile departure from Mayor Eric Adams’ administration since the start of four separate federal investigations into his office and the NYPD.

Edward Caban, whose home was raided last week as part of a federal investigation, was in the post for 14 months.
