Future Imelda prompts Tropical Storm Watch in Florida as system creeps closer to Southeast US coast
Tropical storm alerts remain in effect for portions of the eastern Florida coastline, and at least two states have declared preemptive states of emergency as a looming storm system remains on its way to becoming Hurricane Imelda,
Tropical Depression Nine was upgraded to Tropical Storm Imelda Sunday afternoon. The 2pm advisory from the National Hurricane Center increased winds to 40 mph, making Imelda a weak tropical storm.

A stretch of the Florida coast from Martin County to Volusia County was placed under a tropical storm watch Saturday morning — though the strongest winds of soon-to-be Tropical Storm Imelda were expected to stay well offshore.
Hurricane Humberto will pass west of Bermuda Tuesday, bringing tropical storm winds, dangerous surf and rip current risks to the island and US coast.
The system, which is dropping a significant amount of rain on The Bahamas, is expected to be upgraded to a Tropical Storm later Sunday or early Monday. When it does, it will be named Imelda.
