Hezbollah members use pagers to prevent spies from intercepting their communications. Many of them exploded on Tuesday, injuring an estimated 2,800 people and killing eight.

Multiple explosions went off Wednesday at the site of a funeral for three Hezbollah members and a child killed by exploding pagers the day before, according to Associated Press journalists at the scene.

Israel launched a series of strikes on Hezbollah targets Thursday as the war against the Lebanon-based group widened in the wake of two consecutive days of deadly explosions triggered in wireless devices.

All this, moments before funerals were due to start for an 11-year-old boy and three Hezbollah members killed the previous day. In the surrounding area there was bedlam as the sound of the explosion echoed through the streets.

Lebanon was hit with a fresh wave of exploding telecommunications devices including walkie-talkies a day after 12 people were killed and thousands injured in a series of similar blasts.

Explosions went off in Beirut and multiple parts of Lebanon in an apparent second wave of detonations of electronic devices, officials said.
