SOUTH LAKE TAHOE – Local leaders and emergency officials have released the new Lake Tahoe Regional Evacuation Plan. The plan, which was developed in conjunction with agencies across the Tahoe region, was published Wednesday. Noting that it's a "living document," officials say the plan will be updated from time to time.

The 185-page document is essentially a reference book for all of the counties surrounding Lake Tahoe and outlines how residents could evacuate swiftly in case of an emergency situation, like a wildfire.

The new plan splits the Tahoe area into five general evacuation planning areas. Those are South Lake Tahoe/Myers, North Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Douglas, Incline Village, and West Lake Tahoe. It will include Nevada County, Placer County, El Dorado County, Alpine County, Douglas County, Carson City, and Washoe County.
