Imelda was upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane on Tuesday and threatened to bring hurricane conditions to Bermuda by Wednesday evening.
Imelda, currently a Category 1 hurricane, is forecast to create hurricane-force winds, waves and flash floods in Bermuda late Wednesday. The storm should pass north of the island at close to Category 2 strength, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Hurricane Humberto, a Category 1 storm, is not expected to make landfall in the U.S., but the East Coast could still see some impacts.
Hurricane Humberto's swells will probably cause "life-threatening surf and rip current conditions," the National Hurricane Center warned.
By the end of September, the U.S. usually has at least one hurricane landfall. Not this year. We look at where all the hurricanes have gone, and what to expect.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) and National Weather Service (NWS) will remain operational during the government shutdown since weather forecasts are critical to protect life and property, but some impacts are still expected.
