Zohran Mamdani's historic New York City's mayoral race victory has sparked excitement and hope among many American Muslims.

In the United States, New York City, New Jersey, Virginia, and California are voting in the first major Election Day since President Donald Trump returned to the White House.

Exit polls in the 2025 races in New Jersey, Virginia, New York City and California showed Trump and the economy were on the minds of voters.

Trump has taken a number of actions against Democratic-led cities that experts say could slow Mamdani's goals.

Mamdani began his victory speech with a quote from socialist Eugene V. Debs, saying, "The sun may have set over our city this evening, but as Eugene Debs once said, 'I can see the dawn of a better day for humanity.'"
