While Tropical Storm Imelda is forecast to become a hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday, Sept. 30, according to the National Hurricane Center, it is expected to remain offshore, and the Sarasota and Bradenton area should not be impacted.

Future Imelda prompts Tropical Storm Watch in Florida as system creeps closer to Southeast US coast
Tropical storm alerts remain in effect for portions of the eastern Florida coastline, and at least two states have declared preemptive states of emergency as a looming storm system remains on its way to becoming Hurricane Imelda,
Tropical Depression Nine was upgraded to Tropical Storm Imelda Sunday afternoon. The 2pm advisory from the National Hurricane Center increased winds to 40 mph, making Imelda a weak tropical storm.
With the system’s center likely remaining around 100-150 miles east of Florida’s East Coast, it should be far enough away for the peninsula to avoid significant rain and wind impacts.
Hurricane Humberto will pass west of Bermuda Tuesday, bringing tropical storm winds, dangerous surf and rip current risks to the island and US coast.
The system, which is dropping a significant amount of rain on The Bahamas, is expected to be upgraded to a Tropical Storm later Sunday or early Monday. When it does, it will be named Imelda.
Crews spent Saturday preparing for a weather system that was forecast to become Tropical Storm Imelda late Saturday or early Sunday before approaching the coast of South Carolina as a hurricane early next week.
