Following Hurricane Isaias, a tropical disturbance was brewing in the Atlantic. However, there is little chance of formation, experts say.
The disturbance, located a few hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, was producing a large but disorganized area of showers and thunderstorms. The storms extended into the western Cabo Verde Islands, National Hurricane Center forecaster Andrew Hagen said. There is currently no threat to Louisiana.
Footage has been shared on social media showing the devastation caused by Isaias, which crashed into the Florida coast as a Category 2 hurricane on Friday, though it has since weakened to a post-tropical cyclone according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
The morning after a hurricane is almost always a sunny day. And Oct. 10, the day after Hurricane Isaias blew through Destin as a Category 2 hurricane, was no different. The sun was out, and there was a bit of a cool breeze, and people went to work around the not-so-sleepy fishing village of Destin.
Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin and battered Florida, leaving nearly half a million without power. Damage assessments are just beginning.
Hurricane Isaias is bringing dangerous storm surge, high winds and flooding rain to Florida. See power outage map, updates for Pensacola, Escambia.
Where is Isaias? First 2026 Atlantic hurricane season storm made landfall as a Category 2 in Destin, Florida, then brought flash floods to the northeast.
Sustained winds are considered “damaging” when they reach 50 knots, or 58 m.p.h., and can start to break tree limbs and tear off roof shingles. More widespread damage occurs as winds reach and exceed hurricane force, which is 74 m.p.h.
