DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Simmering political tensions between India and Pakistan have intensified on the cricket field with the India team refusing to accept the Asia Cup trophy from a senior Pakistani official, having already declined handshakes with their archrival for three consecutive matches.
Pakistan will be gunning for revenge but an unbeaten India look firm favourites to retain the Asia Cup title when the arch-rivals clash in a potentially testy final in Dubai on Sunday.
The Indian players refused to shake hands with their Pakistani opponents at the first meeting of the sides since the two countries exchanged hostilities this year.
Pakistan has moved past a handshake dispute with India and beat the United Arab Emirates by 41 runs to qualify for the Super 4 of the Asia Cup.
