The new storm, currently known as Tropical Depression Nine, is forecast to intensify and be declared Tropical Storm Imelda as it approaches Florida's eastern coast, where it is expected to arrive on Monday. Forecasters are warning of heavy rains, flash flooding and swelling seas from Florida up to the Carolinas.
While it's not forecast to make landfall in the U.S., Imelda is expected to bring heavy rain and dangerous surf from Florida to North Carolina.
While Imelda is expected to move away from Florida and the United States, dangerous beach conditions, including rough surf, high seas and life-threatening rip currents are expected to continue spreading from Florida north to much of the U.S. east coast, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Tropical Storm Imelda strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane Tuesday with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.
A second storm system, Imelda, strengthened into a hurricane, becoming the fourth one of the 2025 Atlantic season.
