Pope Leo XIV has held prayers at the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral in Istanbul, supporting Christian unity and minorities in Turkey.

Pope Leo is in Turkey for his first foreign trip since becoming pontiff where he visited Istanbul’s famous blue mosque. It’s the first time he’s visited a Muslim house of worship as Pope and it’s a symbol of his outreach to the Islamic world.

Pope Leo XIV started the second day of his trip to Turkey with a visit to Istanbul’s Blue Mosque on Saturday. Leo was following in the footsteps of his recent predecessors, who all made high-profile visits to the mosque in a gesture of respect to Turkey’s Muslim majority.
