Metro Detroiters should prepare for 4-6 inches of snow from a winter storm expected to hit southeast Michigan on Sunday.

A massive winter storm dumped sleet, freezing rain and snow across much of the U.S. on Sunday, bringing subzero temperatures and paralyzing air and road traffic.

About 10 to 14 inches of snow is expected in the five boroughs, the north shore of Long Island, and northwestern New Jersey, PIX11 meteorologists say.

Michigan residents can expect snow and cold Wednesday morning, Jan. 21, with accumulating snow across lower Michigan, wind gusts causing whiteouts and dangerous cold air lingering statewide.

The massive winter storm that has blanketed a wide swath of the country has caused school districts to cancel classes for at least Monday, Jan. 26.
