The landslide damaged homes and infrastructure in the city, which is being aided by the State Emergency Operation Center, Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy said in a statement.

The slide Sunday afternoon just above the Southeast Alaska city’s downtown sent tons of debris and mud onto a half-dozen homes, killing one person and injuring three.

The landslide separated parents from their kids, including Tabitha Brown. She was on her way home from work when the landslide hit.

Emergency crews on Tuesday were racing to clear tons of earth and downed trees from a landslide zone in Ketchikan before another storm front was expected to hit overnight, which officials fear could trigger further slides.
