The new leader of the US Federal Aviation Administration said the deadly crash of an Air India Boeing Co. 787 jet last month was unlikely to have been caused by a mechanical issue with the plane or inadvertent movement of the aircraft’s fuel control switches.

Days after the Air India crash in Ahmedabad, the head of the Federal Aviation Administration said on Thursday that the fatal crash of the Boeing 787 jet does not appear to have been caused by a mechanical issue or inadvertent movement of the fuel control unit or switches.

An investigation into a deadly crash last month has focused on control switches that cut off fuel to an Air India Boeing jet after takeoff.
