As always, it's a hard one to judge what is the better time. We usually go for our longest trip in mid to late August, which is usually great, bearing in mind the weather can warm somewhat by late August, but the snow pack is generally pretty reliable. If you really don't want to drive from Sydney, there are a number of coach options from Sydney to Jindabyne you could check out. If you do change your mind and drive, it is a pretty easy drive down. Jindabyne is the most cost effective place to stay and just 25 minutes to the mountain (or you can ride skitube)
